Detecting Neutrinos

6 Tau Neutrino

This is section 6 of 13.

Here is its description.

The tau neutrino or tauon neutrino is a subatomic elementary particle which has the symbol
vt and no net electric charge. Together with the tau (t), it forms the third generation of leptons, hence the name tau neutrino. Its existence was immediately implied after the tau particle was detected in a series of experiments between 1974–1977 by Martin Lewis Perl with his colleagues at the SLAC–LBL group. The discovery of the tau neutrino was announced in July 2000 by the DONUT collaboration (Direct Observation of the Nu Tau).

The tau neutrino is last of the leptons, and is the second most recent particle of the Standard Model to be discovered. The DONUT experiment from Fermilab was built during the 1990s to specifically detect the tau neutrino.
These efforts came to fruition in July 2000, when the DONUT collaboration reported its detection. Tau neutrino can have three types of mass.

Mass 1 : Tau neutrino having 66.7% mass of neutrino and others having 16.7% mass,

mass 2 : each particle having 33.3%,

mass 3 : Electron and Muon neutrino having 49% mass and Tau neutrino having 2% mass.

Observation.

A neutrino is needed only when the event has energy which must be lost, but when there is no real particle available in the event, a neutrino was offered as the mechanism to carry away that energy.

The taon must carry in its kinetic energy any energy to be lost from the collision event.

I suggest there are 3 crucial unknowns in the creation of a taon.

I assume a taon is a damaged proton.

1) the number of impacts taken by the proton which will become a taon.

In a particle collider, projectiles could rebound off the target. These rebounds hit the particles in the projectile stream at a greater velocity than the target.

2) the amount of energy absorbed by this particle for its damage to result in both a reduced mass and a flip in its polarity.

Fermi's Interaction suggests when a particle is created, a neutrino is required as well, to carry away any energy lost in the particle's creation.

3) The possibility exists that the tau neutrino is proposed only to match the electron neutrino, but has no valid energy for the tau neutrino to carry.

The taon is not a newly created particle. A taon is a damaged proton.

There is no need for the tau neutrino.
