Mysteries of Modern Physics

One of the great intellectual achievements of the twentieth century was the theory of quantum mechanics, according to which observational results can only be predicted probabilistically rather than with certainty. Yet, after decades in which the theory has been successfully used on an everyday basis, most physicists would agree that we still don’t truly understand what it means. I will talk about the source of this puzzlement, and explain why an increasing number of physicists are led to an apparently astonishing conclusion: that the world we experience is constantly branching into different versions, representing the different possible outcome of quantum measurements. This could have important consequences for quantum gravity and the emergence of spacetime.

Sean Carroll is a theoretical physicist at the California Institute of Technology, and an External Professor at the Santa Fe Institute. He is the host of the weekly Mindscape podcast. I am sorry to say these mysteries persist simply because physicists apparently do no not know enough physics, to explain observations. Perhaps they also need a little chemistry to understand  the Doppler effect.

Dark matter does not exist.
in every case where this undefined, undetectable entity  is claimed to exist there are magnetic fields being ignored. There are a number of studies reaching that conclusion but physicists cannot see the electric current generating the magnetic field so they propose an entity that cannot be detected, or tested, putting it beyond classical physics.

Physicists continue with non-testable theories and it is a mystery to me, as an electrical engineer, how modern physics does not recognize that, so it remains stuck where it is.

Dark energy is even worse. The Doppler effect in galaxies was known to come from atoms in the intergalactic medium; Hubble knew this in 1936  when he put our Local Group on an island separate from the Hubble Flow.

All the galaxies are not zooming away from Earth but each spectrum contains either hydrogen or calcium absorption lines from the IGM; these intervening atoms in the IGM cannot indicate motion at the distant light source.

The universe is not expanding. The ridiculous expanding fabric of space does not exist so there is no need for an undetectable, non-testable dark energy for this imagined fabric.

As an engineer I had to make machines work correctly; failure of the machine to perform was not tolerated.

These mysteries in physics exist because non-testable theories are tolerated.
After physics gets rid of those mistakes which are a diversion, they can concentrate on that subatomic domain of quantum mechanics. It is disappointing to see they were brought together here.

Quantum physics has a standard model based on quarks and quasiparticles but the Structured Atomic Model  by Edwin Kaal uses 2 real particles, electron and proton, and describes how this new model explains behaviors which are not explained by the standard model.

This use of known particles is far more practical than wave functions within an atom, including its connection of the nucleus structure to the behaviors observed in the periodic table.
